Brew Guide: V60 Filter Coffee
Prep Time: 5 mins | Brew Time: 3 mins | Cups: 2
The V60 is a simple brew method to make a deliciously clear filter for your morning cup at home.
It has become more popular in recent years. Originating in Japan, the V60 process helps you unlock the maximum flavour from your coffee beans and giving clear flavours in the cup meaning coffee lovers can enjoy even the subtle flavours.
What you need:
30g medium-fine ground Wylie’s Coffee (recommend: Brazil Peaberry or Founders Brew)
500ml hot water, plus more to rinse the paper filter
2 Cup V60 and paper filter
Decanter/jug
Optional: scales and timer
Method:
1. Put your water on to boil.
2. Put your filter paper in the V60 and rinse with a little hot water to ensure the paper is fully saturated.
3. Add your ground coffee to the V60 giving it a small shake to make sure all the grounds are level.
4. Place the decanter/jug on your brewing scales (if using) and tare off the scales.
5. Pour 100 ml of hot water over the grounds ensuring all grounds are wet. This process is called blooming.
6. After 30 seconds, continue pouring the water over the grounds, slowly in a circular motion, until you have poured all the water.
7. Give the V60 a gentle swirl to agitate the grounds and water.
8. Once the water has fully drained (ideally no longer than 3 minutes), remove the V60.
Swirl your brewed coffee, pour and enjoy.
